E Access regime E
The racecourse
Controlled by The race calendar
Twice a year the town is not accessible on normal terms, and no amount of planning changes that. A local firm knows which days those are.
What permission is actually needed
Nothing you can apply for. On the big race meetings the roads across the Downs close, Tattenham Corner and Langley Vale become difficult to reach, and the town centre fills.
The honest answer is to move on a different date, and if you are anywhere near the Downs we will tell you so rather than taking the booking and hoping.
Where a date genuinely cannot move, we start earlier and route in from the far side, which is workable and is not the day anybody would choose.
Our part
What we handle under this regime
- 1 Checking your date against the race calendar before it is confirmed
- 2 Saying so plainly when a date is a poor idea, rather than after you have booked
- 3 Routing in from the opposite side where a date cannot move
- 4 Knowing which streets are affected and which, despite the postcode, are not
Moving under regime E?
Tell us both addresses and, if a block or an estate is involved, its name. We will confirm the rules with whoever needs asking before your date is fixed.
